Announcement – Strictly Average – MTG https://strictlyaveragemtg.com When Strictly Better is just out of reach. Wed, 24 Oct 2018 08:30:53 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.9.8 124146750 Some Strictly Average News https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2018/10/14/some-strictly-average-news/ https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2018/10/14/some-strictly-average-news/#respond Sun, 14 Oct 2018 08:30:41 +0000 https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/?p=3790 You may have noticed some folks sharing links to content on our website.

The Strictly Average Patreon has been running a contest, sharing articles on social media outlets; suffice to say the contest was quite a success. We have had a tremendous traffic boost, all thanks to the wonderful people of our Patreon.

This being the final day of the contest, I want to take a moment to talk about Strictly Average: who we are, and what we do. This site started as a self-deprecating joke by our founder, Jeremy; however, it has gained some pretty surprising traction as the content on this site has grown. We’ve had a few growing pains here or there, but we are slowly arriving at a much better place in terms of content base. It has been awesome to see it grow.

The idea behind this site is to provide great content, not just for Magic but for gaming in general. To that end we also have a Patreon that allows like-minded individuals to work together, trade, and chat amongst themselves (via our Patreon Discord server). Our goal is very simple: to spread a message of positivity and awesomeness in all our interactions.

If you’re reading this, I want to take a moment to thank you. We are very grateful for our wonderful authors who devote their time and efforts providing awesome content. We are also extremely grateful that you give us your time as you read through our content.

If you find yourself interested in joining our cause, please be sure to check out the Patreon link on the sidebar. Doing so gains you access to our Patreon Discord, where you can interact with others who support the cause as well.

In addition, if you think you would like writing for us, we are always seeking out new authors. This is a fantastic way to break into writing about Magic, or gaming writing in general. If you believe you might be interested in this, please check out this form to apply!

To wrap things up, thank you again for taking the time to check out our site. I hope that we can continue to make things a little Strictly Average in the future.

The New Strictly Average Schedule https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2018/06/05/the-new-strictly-average-schedule/ https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2018/06/05/the-new-strictly-average-schedule/#respond Tue, 05 Jun 2018 08:30:12 +0000 https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/?p=2357 Howdy folks! My name is Joe Dyer and I’m posting to talk today about some upcoming changes to how we are scheduling content with StrictlyAverageMTG.com.

Recently I have been given the opportunity to take over as content manager for StrictlyAverageMTG, helping Jeremy decentralize some responsibilities in a few areas. I want to take the time to discuss with folks about where we are headed and where I would like to be.

First off – I am in the process of rescheduling articles. For example, my article series on Strictly Eternal 101 and Strictly Vorthos will be moving to Fridays (with the first articles for this being on June 15). Justin Lado’s non-Magic articles will be occurring on Wednesday/Thursday. I don’t have a full schedule as of yet, but I am still working on it and wanted to share with you folks the major changes right off the bat.

I am in the process of discussing content articles with other authors that have previously written for us to find out more information on their ability to continue to contribute to the site. I am always on the lookout for anyone who is willing to write Magic content for a Magic website, but I’m also open to non-Magic content. If you can write about any gaming content (such as Board Games, etc) then I would like to talk to you about writing for here. If this interests you, you can reach me via Discord under my name volrathxp or via my Twitter account @volrathxp.

Magic content areas that I would personally like seeing covered on a regular basis in some shape or form:

  • Standard format content
  • Modern format content
  • EDH format content
  • Brawl format content
  • Magic Arena content
  • Limited format content
  • Cube format content
  • Trading cards online content (either through PucaTrade/Cardsphere, or even how best to use DeckBox accordingly)

I have many ideas on what things we can do to best improve the content of this website and I’m looking forward to working with people on making this content great to look back on.

Thanks for all the support and reading!

Calling All Content Creators – New Monthly Giveaway https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/07/26/calling-all-content-creators-new-monthly-giveaway/ https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/07/26/calling-all-content-creators-new-monthly-giveaway/#respond Wed, 26 Jul 2017 17:53:26 +0000 https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/?p=1106 I am pleased to announce a new monthly giveaway for Content Creators. As you likely know, this project is not a money-making venture. This means that I have been unable to recruit other authors for site content. In an effort to remedy that, I am now offering a monthly drawing for Content Creators. The first giveaway cycle will conclude the last week of August.

How to Enter

Simply contact me via this form, twitter, or on Discord to discuss what you would like to offer for publication. It can be an MTG-related video, an article, or even a podcast. The editing team will screen and edit all articles as necessary; we reserve the right to turn down any piece that doesn’t meet our standard of content. We have a strict policy regarding not tearing people down to bring ourselves up; will not post inflammatory and hateful pieces.

Each piece of unique content that passes our approval process will earn you 2 entries into the monthly drawing.

If you have previously published content elsewhere, that’s cool too.  We will gladly accept it for editing and republication on this site, provided that 1). you own the rights to the work, and 2). the initial hosting party is okay with republication.  You will receive 1 entry into the monthly drawing per published piece that has previously been hosted elsewhere.

Content Creators are limited to earning 2 entries per week.  This means you can submit up to 2 pieces of content previously published elsewhere, or 1 piece of content created expressely for us, every week.

What is being given away?

For this first giveaway cycle, and due to the nature of price fluctuations in singles, the Content Creators giveaway prize will be announced closer to the end of August. However, I guarantee it will be a card, multiple cards, or other MTG product with a value of $50 or more.

Patron Giveaways, and new User Campaign https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/07/26/patron-giveaways-and-new-user-campaign/ https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/07/26/patron-giveaways-and-new-user-campaign/#respond Wed, 26 Jul 2017 14:37:00 +0000 https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/?p=1104 Hello friends, below is a new post I made on the Patreon:

Howdy friends.  Although I haven’t been updating the Patreon page with news, the community of Patrons has been stronger then ever. We have continued giving away SWEET prizes.

June:

– 1,000 pucapoint prize to 1010101010100101

– 2 MPS Aether Vial Playmats from the SCG Tour to CNWeezard and WickedRick

– Remainder of patrons got a standard pack of their choice.

In May:

– Eclipse Sleeves – DalairBear

– Tarmogoyf – Pucaminute (Geekified Games) Podcast

For the July Drawing, I will be doing a pack of Eclipse sleeves, and a Masterpiece of the winners choice.  I will give the winner a price range; they decide which Expedition/Invention/Invocation they want.

I am also adding a new user signup bonus for the next 5 weeks, through the September drawing (Sept 1). All new users participating at the $5 or higher tier will receive a booster pack from a standard-legal set of their choice.  If the new user is a referral, the referring patron will also receive a pack (up to 3 packs).

Month of June – Patron Drawing. https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/07/20/month-of-june-patron-drawing/ https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/07/20/month-of-june-patron-drawing/#respond Fri, 21 Jul 2017 01:37:32 +0000 https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/?p=1062 I held off the drawing for the month of June to see what would happen with the value of Hour of Devastation.  News flash, it sucks.  Pure and total Garbage! Because I actually like my patrons, and do not want to force them to suffer any more than I did when I cracked my terrible box of HOUR, I am gonna let the patrons decide what packs they want for themselves… If anyone doesnt let me know by the time I head to the shop tomorrow mid-day, they are gonna get Aether Revolt, because that is where the value is. I will be recording the pack openings this weekend, and sending out the cards.

Grand Prize for this drawing was 2 winners, and they are both getting the Aether Vial Masterpiece Playmat from the Charlotte SCG Open.

Pucatrade Christmas in July – Secret Santa https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/05/16/pucatrade-christmas-in-july-secret-santa/ https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/05/16/pucatrade-christmas-in-july-secret-santa/#respond Wed, 17 May 2017 00:38:54 +0000 https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/?p=1030 Hello, Friends! Been a bit of a break for old Strictly here.  I have been dealing with some Real Life things and some minor health things.  But I am doing well, and feeling well. Gonna make it a serious go for starting up writing on a regular basis again.  To kick this off, I am going back to where I started with many of you, Secret Santa! Yeah, I am a few months early, so we are doing a Christmas in July.  For this Secret Santa event, I am handing my Santa hat over to my really good friend Kriple. I will be running the event, and final decision maker, but Kriple and Beanna agreed to actually do the hard work. (Kinda like the real Santa.)

Before we get into the rules, I’d like to share some of the awesome gifts that were sent out during the last Secret Santa event, to highlight how some users will go over the recommended value.  This is encouraged, but not required.

Very simply, things will work like this.  You sign up, you send a killer gift to Kriple.  In that package you will include an envelope with your address on it, and a stamp.  After we collect all the gifts, the list will get randomized, and the gifts sent out.  You will be contacted by one of us with the name of the recipient of your package.  And then hangout on discord and look for the pictures of the cool packages that get received.

How to Participate (read the rules carefully, or I keep your cards and you get NONE… Not kidding, and don’t test me.)

  • Sign up Here
  • Contact Beanna, Kriple, or Strictly on Discord to get the address to send cards to.
  • Send a card or package of cards with a value of your choice, with at least 1 card worth a minimum of 500 points. Previously some people have sent some ridiculously packed gifts, and I would hate to see them get a pile of foil basic lands. Basically, this is a volunteer run event meant for the benefit of the community, and anyone that tried to game the system, or beat someone out of a gift is merely hurting the other members of the community.
  • All cards must be protected with a top loader as minimum protection, more protection at your own discretion – Within the package you will also include a Self Address Stamped-Envelope (US users only for this part)
  • For Canadian and other out of country participants, you will be responsible for contacting Kriple to send him PayPal for the cost of a US International Stamp, you still need to send an empty envelope addressed to you.
  • Anyone’s package that does not include a self-addressed envelope will be confiscated and fed to Strictly’s Daughter.  Although this would make an amazing video for the site, I highly doubt you would like seeing your gift devoured by my monster.
  • If you choose to provide a gift to another user that includes a larger volume of cards (something that is more than you would send in a normal envelope without an extra stamp) please include an extra $.21 stamp.
  • If for some crazy reason someone wants to send a killer gift that will not fit in a PWE, contact Strictly and Kriple and work something out for the cost of shipping.
  • All Packages to Kriple need to be postmarked by 6/15 and will be shipped on or around 7/15
  • If there are any issues or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me on Discord, or join the Community Projects channel on Discord.
  • By entering this event, you agree to submit to my final decision on any issues, complaints, gripes, or tough decisions.

Announcement: Patreon Goal Achieved and a Partnership https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/02/25/announcement-patreon-goal-achieved-and-a-partnership/ https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/2017/02/25/announcement-patreon-goal-achieved-and-a-partnership/#respond Sat, 25 Feb 2017 16:30:30 +0000 https://strictlyaveragemtg.com/?p=896 I just wanted to take a brief break from my Saturday morning activities to share some exciting news.

Announcement 1

My unofficial Patreon goal of $100 for the month of February has been met.  This means that for this month’s giveaway, we will be increasing the top prize immensely. Not only does the premium winner get to win a Mini Battle-Box, but that lucky Patron is also going to receive a beautiful handmade deck box made from a wonder artist and friend of the site, Spencer Baumgarten. Because my Patreon Partners are the best around, I am also going to send the second place winner 3 packs of cards of their choice (Any Standard Legal set, or Conspiracy 2.)

There are still 3 days left, anyone that signs up to commit for the Month of February will receive an entry to our Patron giveaway, where we will give 1k Puca Points, 10 MTGO Tickets, or a card valued at $10.  Everyone who signs up for $5 or more, will receive an entry into a drawing of a sweet Battle-Box and Deck Box.

Announcement 2

Our friends over at PucaMinute Podcast have been supporting us since the beginning and we are proud to announce that we will be hosting their content on our site in a mutually beneficial partnership. These guys are doing great things for the pucatrade community, and have recording 95 episodes so far. For today’s announcement, I am embedding their big announcement from this week, but we are working the logistics of the partnership, so stay tuned for more information.
